Bhubaneswar: Think twice before accepting any friend request from a stranger on Facebook as this youth used the social media platform to lure young girls and exploit them sexually before dumping and blackmailing them. Two girls have filed complaints against a single youth named Soumya Ranjan Sahoo living in Bhubaneswar of sexually exploiting and harassing them in the name of marriage.

The modus operandi of the accused was very simple. He lured young girls by his charm and good looks over Facebook and exchanged numbers. Then he used to chat with them regularly to win their trust and confidence. Over the time, he used to invite the girl either to his apartment or a hotel room, in which he used to drug her by putting tablets in her drink and physically exploit her. He used to capture the whole thing on camera. If the girl threatens to go to the police, he used to marry that girl in a temple and promise to get married through Vedic rituals soon.

But when the girl used to pester her consistently regarding marriage, he dumped her and moved on, threatening to put the sex videos and photos on social media if she continues to annoy him.

Two girls of the capital city have come forward with the help of NGO Friends Foundation and filed FIRs against the same person, Soumya originally hailing from Angul. One of the girls has alleged that he had taken Rs 55,000 from her.

Both the girls have alleged that the youth may put their objectionable photos and videos on social media platform and defame them. They want him to be arrested and punished.
