Evacuation Initiated, ODRAF & NDRF Teams Deployed: SRC On Cyclone Amphan

Bhubaneswar: In the wake of approaching cyclone Amphan, the State Government has begun its preparations for tackling the calamity. Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Jena spoke of the measures in detail while updating the status of Amphan.

Here are the detailed preparatory measures as mention by SRC in his press briefing:

1: Collectors of alerted districts have initiated the evacuation of people from thatched houses or kutcha houses to nearest cyclone shelters. Also evacuated are people staying within five km of coastline and in low lying areas. It will be completed by tomorrow.

2: Those who have tested negative for COVID-19 and have a pucca house, will be discharged.

3: Total suspension of fishing activity till May 20. Fisherfolks advised keeping boats, motorboats and trawlers properly tied with rubber padding, if possible.

4: Total of 27 teams (10 NDRF and 17 ODRAF) have been deployed to districts which are likely to affected.

5: Apart from local fire services, additional 30 teams have been mobilised and kept ready for deployment.

6: Odisha DGP Abhay is visiting Balasore and Bhadrak districts for situation assessment. Similarly, Police IG Soumendra Singh will be going to Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur district. Based on their reports, additional personnel will be deployed.

7: 200 officials of forest services and senior officials from other departments have also been mobilised.

8: Expectant women and other people with an illness which need medical attention will be shifted to the nearest hospital by tomorrow.

Jena advised those who would be shifted to cyclone shelters to carry vital papers such as identity cards, land documents; cash, jewellery, dry food, medicine, required clothes with them. He also advised keeping radio and torch handy. SRC said that the inhabitants will be provided with cooked or dry food, as available and urged them to maintain harmony while residing at the centres.

He said that the Odisha Government is aiming at zero casualties during this calamity and sought cooperation from everyone. He requested people to not leave their house or cyclone centres until the effect of the cyclone has completely negated.
