Elephant Killed By Speeding Train In Odisha's Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: A 10-year-old female elephant was killed after being hit by a goods train while crossing railway tracks near Dandimal railway station in Dhenkanal on Friday.

Reportedly, the pachyderm was crossing the tracks at Barada village when it was hit by the train going towards Talcher from Dhenkanal.

Train services were hit after the incident with Puri-Talcher passenger left stranded at Dhenkanal railway station. On getting information forest department officials reached the spot.

Meanwhile, giving a clarification on the incident, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Khurda Road Division, Braj Mohan Agarwal has stated that no advance cautionary speed restriction was received from Forest Department in this case.

The incident occurred between 1915 to 1930 hours and the railway authorities came to know about it only after being informed by the forest officials.
