Bhubaneswar: A ten-year-old male elephant ‘Chandan’ died early Sunday at the Nandankanan Zoological Park located on the outskirts of the Capital city.
The pachyderm was rescued from Chandaka Forest Reserve on July, 2010 and had become a resident of Nandankanan since then.
As per reports, Chandan was not well for the last few days and was undergoing treatment as per the advice of expert veterinarians of Assam State as well as Centre for wildlife Health Odisha.
The exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained.
Notably, the number of tuskers at the Nandankanan Zoological Park has now reduced to six.
