Bhubaneswar:Odia people are very attached to their afternoon nap. And especially during the summers, ‘Pakhala’ (cooked rice fermented in water) followed by a good half an hour to 45 minutes siesta is enough to re-energise Odias, for the rest of the day.
Come election season the dynamics change entirely. Glued to the television sets and analyzing the voting trends, people of the State are too keen to keep themselves abreast of the political discourse.
And on the voting day, our voters are on an upbeat. 2019 elections are no different. Braving the sizzling summer, people across the State have voted in large numbers.
Today as the elections conclude in Odisha with the fourth phase polling, there was an encouraging footfall of electors in six Lok Sabha constituencies.
As per data received from the Chief Electoral Officer, till 3 pm the voting in the fourth phase was 53 percent. The numbers are likely to soar upto 75 percent till the polling ends by Monday evening, reliable sources said.
“This is the beauty of a democracy. We are powerful, we elect our representatives who will make laws and run the country. If we do not exercise our constitutional right now, we will have no right to complaint for the next five years,”a group of voters in Kendrapada said.
