Bhubaneswar: In a bid to ensure a smooth and safe election process, a meeting was conducted today at the Secretariat to discuss poll expenditure management, model code of conduct, vulnerability mapping and law and order situation for the upcoming 2019 Assembly and General elections.

The meeting was held at office of Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in the presence of Police DG Rajendra Prasad Sharma, Home Department Special Secretary, Crime Branch ADG Santosh Upadhyay and other senior officers of police, income tax and excise department.

Surendra Kumar, Chief Electoral Officer said, "Different teams have been deployed for different functions. We have also launched an application by the name of C-Vigil or Citizen-Vigil. If citizens notice any untoward incident, then they can directly intimate us by uploading photos and videos in the app. Our officers will investigate further and accordingly action will be taken."

Soon after the inauguration, Additional Chief Secretary of Odisha Home department Asit Tripathy briefed media, “Preparations for the simultaneous elections (Lok Sabha and Assembly) 2019 have begun at the Chief Electoral Office here. Hence, an orientation program is being held for the senior officers. A director has been deputed by the Election Commission of India to deliberate especially on two modules.”

“It was inaugurated today morning and the important meeting will continue upto lunch session. Deliberations are scheduled to be on conducting free and fair elections, maintaining law and order situation, etc. It is conducted under the general superintendence of Election Commission of India as per the Constitution. There is Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for various aspects. Hence, how the police officials will handle it will be the deliberation of the day and accordingly they will be trained,” he concluded.

DGP RP Sharma said, "We will be looking at the LWE (left wing extremism) areas under vulnerability mapping. Security personnel will be given specific training to deal with extreme situations during the polls and also in the pre-poll stage."
