**Bhubaneswar: ** In the wake of Chief Electoral Officer’s statement that the final voters list for the General Elections has been slated to be published on January 4, 2019, it has now been clear that there is no chance of early general elections. However, all the three main political parties (BJD, Congress and BJP) in Odisha are already on their toes as speculations were rife over an early election instead of its due in 2019.
Notwithstanding stand, all are agog to know what impact it would have in Odisha, be it early or timely elections.
OMMCOM NEWS tried to gather reactions from the poll pundits who have been watching the electoral trends in Odisha over the years.
Senior journalist Rabi Das said, “There won’t be any much impact in Odisha either due to early election or normal. But, one significant thing to be noted in Odisha context is that of the anti-BJP alliance now gathering momentum in the country. It isn’t possible here in our State. Naveen Patnaik has his own party’s ample strength to face election alone and thus needs no pact with other parties.”
“In a bid to appease the people for garnering votes, Naveen Patnaik has been taking up the requisite programmes. He has always adopted the election strategy effectively and now he has expedited it. Soon after an election ends, he forthwith starts preparing for the next one. He never lags behind in electoral preparedness. It is well-observed from his entire political career here,” Das remarked.
Another senior journalist Prasanta Patnaik viewed, “Going by the present positions of various political parties, no clear picture is available except BJD.”
“It’s a fact that Congress here has revived from its devastated state and is trying to put its house in order. Hence, we can’t duck certain promising prospects for the Congress here in the State. It may gain to some extent. Niranjan Patnaik after being the chief, he is trying to improve the position of Congress here in Odisha,” he stated.
The senior journalist also added, “As far BJP is concerned, it will also improve its position comparatively. But the way Amit Shah has been boasting of 120+ will fall flat. Rather, it will have a negative impact on the public.”
Presenting his analysis, senior journalist Sandeep Sahu said, “Expecting early elections, all the major political parties have already started their respective election preparedness in Odisha. Even after knowing that there will be election as per its due time, they won’t sit idle. Rather they would keep on pacing up as this time the fight will be more intense.”
“The opposition parties here are hopeful that ruling BJD will definitely face anti-incumbency factor being in power for consecutively four times. Had there been early election, opposition couldn’t have got enough time to reach and convince people against the BJD Government here. If there will be election on time, opposition will get sufficient time to target the State Government and sway the public against it,” Sahu viewed.
