Bhubaneswar: Massive processions of the idols of Goddess Durga, which had converged at Saheed Nagar and other places in the Capital city for 'Melana' today afternoon, have left for the four artificial immersion ponds constructed by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The processions are being accompanied by various folk artists and puja revellers. At least 25 puja committees have formed the 'Bhubaneswar Bhasani Utsav Samiti' to oversee the immersion ceremony. The immersion will continue till today midnight.

BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena had visited the immersion sites near Kuakhai Bridge today. The four ponds have been constructed at Kuakhai bridge near Pandara, near Tankapani Road and another two at Lingipur adjacent to Daya Bridge. Hydraulic machine is being used to immerse the idols into the artificial ponds.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has developed these immersion sites to ensure minimal pollution to the water bodies and rivers. This objective is to achieve zero pollution from the immersion activities in and around the city.
