Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate of Police on Tuesday busted a drug peddling racket in Bhubaneswar with the seizure of 300 grams of brown sugar from an undisclosed location in Khandagiri.
The racket was tracked by a joint team of Special Squad and Khandagiri police, DCP Anup Sahoo said.
One Santosh Kumar Panda of Puri district has been arrested in this case. "300 grams of brown sugar, Rs 2.14 lakh, five mobile phones and one motorcycle has been recovered from his possession," Sahoo said.
Panda is a serial offender with five criminal cases pending against him. He was also convicted in one case. "He was serving a sentence but jumped parole. There is a non-bailable warrant pending against him," the DCP said.
Panda used to procure drugs from Balasore and supply it to local peddlers in Bhubaneswar. "As a part of the ongoing drive against drug peddlers, we are focussing on the traders who are procuring the contraband in large quantities," Sahoo added.
