Drink From Tap Mission: Odisha H&UD Dept, UNICEF Ink LoU

Bhubaneswar: Investment in water is an investment in health. Investment in health is investment in future. Providing quality drinking water to every household in the State is one of the top priorities of the Government, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said today.

Naveen was chairing the LoU signing ceremony between Housing and Urban Development Department and UNICEF on safe drinking water for every household in the State. The project has been named - 'Drink From Tap Mission'.

The Chief Minister added that investment in water is a critical layer of foundation to make Odisha a healthy society and eventually a productive state. "Provision of safe drinking water results in a drastic reduction of diarrhoea, infant mortality and under-5 mortality rates, for which the Government is spearheading several transformative initiatives to provide water to each household with a view to improving the lives of the people in urban areas."

Principal Secretary H&UD Department, G Mathivathnan made a presentation on the journey of urban water supply in the state highlighting the activities and the achievements of the Department during the past few years and gave a roadmap for the implementation of Drink from Tap Mission.

HUDD Minister Pratap Jena, Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy, Development Commissioner Suresh Mahapatra and UNICEF Odisha chief Monika Nielsen were present on the occasion.
