Diwali Murder: Pressure Mounts As Commissionerate Police Fails To Nab Accused

Bhubaneswar: Family members and friends of Amaresh Nayak who was beaten to death during group clash in Sundarpada area of the city on Diwali night visited the office of the Twin City Police Commissioner today demanding immediate arrest of the accused.

They alleged that the police are yet to arrest the accused persons including mastermind Mantu Nanda, ex-Corporator of Sundarpada. Amaresh's friends who were eyewitness to the murder have also alleged that Mantu is also planning to kill them.

On the other hand, Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi informed that the probe is underway and the accused will be nabbed soon. While some accused have been identifed there is need of evidence. Statement of two eyewitnesses are also being taken into consideration.

Reportedly at about 12 am on the intervening night of October 28 and 29, a clash erupted between two groups in Sundarpada area under Airfield Police limits here over location of bursting firecrackers. Around 12-15 people had attacked Amaresh and his friends and had left him in a bloodied state. He was immediately rushed to Capital Hospital, where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
