Mayurbhanj: The family members of Jhumi Singh, a pregnant woman of Chaulagheri village under Shyam Sunder panchayat in Bangiriposhi block carried her on a cot to cross a river to reach the ambulance. The 102 ambulance was waiting for it on the other side of the river, and she was then rushed to Bangiriposi hospital where her condition was reported to be stable.

As per sources, Jhumi complained of labour pain after which the family members contacted the 102 ambulance. Owing to non-availability of motorable road to the village, the ambulance was unable to reach the destination and waited for the patient at the river’s bank.

The woman’s family members carried her on a cot and crossed the Sankarai river after which she was rushed to the Bangiriposi hospital immediately.

In a similar case, another woman Sukumani Singh of the same village delivered a baby while being transported on a cot through the river. She delivered a girl child before crossing the river.
