Disaster Averted In Odisha: Landmine Recovered During Combing Operations In Sundergarh

02 February 2019

Sundergarh: In a successful coming operation, a major tragedy was averted after CRPF jawans recovered a landmine at Langalakanta forest under K Balang police limits here today morning.

Suspected to be planted by the Maoists, the 15-kg landmine was subsequently diffused by the jawans. Reportedly, the CRPF jawans spotted some wires in the forest and on tracking the wire trail, they recovered the landmine. Following this, combing operation has been intensified in the region.

This comes as a major success as the Maoists are trying to make their presence felt in bordering areas of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Odisha. Just recently, the red rebels had observed ‘Saheed Saptah’ (protest week) wherein they had torched a bus and had felled several trees to block road.

In a separate incident on Friday night, one person was killed, three others were critically injured and six vehicles were torched in Maoist attack on a camp site of labourers at Chakradharpur in Jharkhand bordering Odisha.
