Jeypore:  When an orphan boy identified as Jaydhir Jani committed suicide in Jeypore’s Sishu Sadan, none of his close relatives came to see or claim his dead body. Displaying empathy, two women officers of the district came forward to give dignity to the dead by standing beside him through his post mortem and performed his last rites.

Child Protection Officer Rajashree Dash and Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Gayatri Devi stepped in to fulfill the rituals related to the last rites and Gayatri Devi even lighted the funeral pyre.

Jaydhir hailed from Borigumma block’s Katharagada village in Koraput district. He was staying in Jeypore’s Sishu Sadan for the last 7 years after the death of his parents. A bright student, his suicide is still under investigation.

In a world where the living are seldom shown respect, dignity to the dead seems a far-fetched thing. But this humanitarian act was carried by the noble souls which has touched the hearts of many.
