Dhenkanal: After his arrest on charges of sexual abuse, the founder and managing director of the Beltikiri ‘Good News India’ shelter home, Fayaz Rahman, will be taken on a two day remand by Dhenkanal police from today.

According to reports, Dhenkanal police had appealed to take Rahman on three-day remand however they were granted only two days by the special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court. The cops will interrogate Rahman to elicit more information about the illegal functioning of the shelter home and its foreign links.

Notably, Dhenkanal Shelter Home’s Project Director Simanchal Naik, Assistant Director Udit Lima and Managing Director Fayaz Rehman were arrested a few days back after some girl inmates had levelled charges of sexual harassment against them.

Soon after that, it was discovered that GNI had been running unregistered shelter homes across Odisha and the Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal immediately ordered for raids in all the branches and rehabilitation of the inmates. While the Dhenkanal shelter home has been sealed and the children have been shifted to the nearest secure Child Care Institution, Child Welfare Committee and Distict Child Protection Unit have started conducting raids in all GNI branches like Puri, Rayagada, and Bhadrak.
