Bhubaneswar: Amid the hue and cry over Dhenkanal’s Beltikiri-based controversial Good News India shelter home’s religious conversion viral video, Odisha Women and Child Development Minister sought that a probe must be initiated into the sensitive matter.

In his media reactions today, Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal said, “I don’t have data or information on it (controversial Dhenkanal shelter home’s viral video on religious conversion). But, I can say that it must be probed into.”

On being prodded, he reacted, “It is beyond my power to order for a probe. But the viral video must be probed into. Be it our department or the police, it must be probed into by the probe agency.”

“If investigation reveals that he (arrested managing director Fayaz Rahman of the shelter home) was resorting to illegal religious conversion, action will be taken against him,” the Minister remarked.

Notably, the viral video of alleged religious conversion in shelter homes has been doing rounds in Odisha and has received widespread criticism and hate. However, it has still not been ascertained where the video was recorded. While some say, it occurred in West Bengal, some say it is in Odisha’s Kandhamal.

While Rahman has already been arrested after some girl inmates levelled charges of sexual harassment against him, Dhenkanal Police has taken him on a two-day remand to interrogate him and elicit more information about the illegal functioning of the shelter home, its foreign links and the baptism practices.
