New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum & Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra has expressed deep concern over non-utilization and lying idle of funds sanctioned for Rourkela Smart City project.
The Union Minister has written separately to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Urban Development Minister Hardip Singh Puri seeking their personal intervention in the matter to expedite the project.
Citing information obtained through RTI Act, Pradhan has stated in his letters that out of Rs 376 crore sanctioned by the Central and State governments (Rs 188 crore each) to the Rourkela Smart City Ltd (RSL) in 2015-16 to 2017-18 it has incurred a total expenditure of merely Rs 22.23 crore, out of which Rs 16.37 crore has been expended towards consultancy fees and salaries.
Pradhan has said that it was unfortunate that four years have lapsed since the sanction of grants from the Central and State governments, RSL have not been able to show significant progress in the project.
