Bargarh: Lord Krishna and brother Balaram were given a tearful adieu by the residents of Gopapur (Ambapali) on Wednesday as they left with Akrura to participate in the world-renowned Dhanu Jatra.
The open air theatrical performance on its ninth day witnessed little Krishna leaving for Mathura (Bargarh) on the invitation of his maternal uncle Kansa. Foster-mother of Lord Krishna, Yasodha, and gopis were seen pleading with him to stop. However, the Lord assured all that he will return.
Back at Mathura, disturbed with the prophecy of Bijuli Kanya (Goddess Durga), Kansa is framing plans to kill Krishna and Balaram in Dhanu Jatra. He is in possession of the 'Rudra Trishul' granted by Lord Shiva after being pleased with his penance. However, the Lord also warned of dire consequences if he misuses the weapon.
During his ‘Digvijay’ the demon king destroyed hermits’ huts at Govindpalli and took them as prisoners for their devotion to Lord Krishna.
The ninth day of the festival was attended by Minister of State for ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare, Jagannath Sarka, as a royal guest. He was directed by king Kansa to construct a Girls Student Hostel at Women's College, Bargarh.
