**Bhubaneswar**: The street vendors of the smart city Bhubaneswar would now be defined by their designer uniforms, making them street smart. The uniforms are intended to be worn by all the registered street vendors to bring uniformity and regulation in street vending. Through designer uniforms, it was envisioned to enable the street vendors put up a smart show, both in their businesses as well as making the streets colourful.
A competition was held for designing the Bhubaneswar Street Vendors Uniform by the BMC inviting entries and design ideas from the citizens as well as professionals providing them an opportunity to be a part to the Smart City Development Process. Their creative inputs were intended to be taken to make the street vendors don a unique uniform so that the later would be identified easily across the city.
Around 87 valid entries were received for the contest, Proshish Golyan, Shamik Sarkar and Swagat Suvankar have secured the first, second and third positions respectively and will receive a prize money of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
The designer uniforms will be budget friendly and easy maintenance which can be worn above both traditional and western attire for a classic look.Moreover, it would reflct the ethnic culture of Odisha, soft, absorbent and pocket-friendly best suited for the state’s humid climate.
