Bhubaneswar: Diwali is a time to light up homes with firecrackers and earthen lamps. This time of the year people buy new clothes, ornaments and household goods. Keeping the customer demands in mind, the shopping outlets are offering special discounts on a variety of consumer items.

In Bhubaneswar, the marketplaces are witnessing huge crowds over the past one week. With a heavy rush and demand to buy something new, discounts on electronic goods is something to watch out for.

With new LED TVs some shops are giving free gifts such as WiFi routers, gift coupons, or upto 40 per cent off. With microwave ovens cooking utensils are being offered as gifts.

The shop staffers in Bhubaneswar believe that online shoppers are a different category. "People interested in electronic items mostly prefer to get a touch and feel of the product before purchasing it. I believe 95 percent of electronic goods buyers prefer shops over online purchase," said Chiranjib Biswal, a store manager.

Jewellery and gift shops are major places of attraction with number of offers and freebies. These places even have bumper prizes for lucky draw winners. The offer at the jewellery and gift shops in Bhubaneswar will last till November 3.

Jyostna Rani Patra of Bhubaneswar bought a refrigerator from a local store. She said that Diwali is a time to celebrate with new things. "We bought a new fridge and the family is happy with the purchase. Buying something physically is a better experience than online shopping," she said.

In garment shops the discount ranges between 7 and 15 per cent. "We have gifts on purchase. The stock is filled with colourful Kurta and Pyjamas. Denim trousers and funky t-shirts are also on-demand this time," Jugal Agarwal, a store owner said.
