Cuttack: Irate family of a deceased minor on Sunday protested outside the Emergency Ward of SCB Medical College and Hospital alleging that medical negligence led to the minor’s death.

Five-year-old Pratyush Das fell from stairs yesterday afternoon. Sector 7 Hairanpur slum resident Pratyush was immediately rushed to a private hospital by his father Saroj and his other relatives, said minor's family.

The minor had received head injuries and after basic treatment was sent off to his home stating that he will be fine, said Saroj. However, upon reaching home Pratyush started vomiting and this time was taken to Sishu Bhawan where again he was sent back stating that he will be fine, said minor's family.

Late Saturday night, when Pratyush started vomiting yet again, his family rushed him to the Emergency Ward of SCB hospital.

Saroj alleges that no doctors were present but a few house surgeons who he claims were clueless about Pratyush’s treatment. He further alleges that even giving intravenous saline drip was delayed.

The minor passed away while getting treated.

The irate family members of Pratyush protested outside the Emergency Ward of SCB with his dead body. Upon getting informed, the Police arrived and cleared the ruckus. The grieving family even had a tussle with the Police force as they did not want to budge initially.

The deceased’s father Saroj asserted that he will lodge a complaint against the hospital staff for medical negligence. He refuted the claims that they had locked up the gates of Emergency Ward.

The SCB administration is yet to release a statement.
