Debt Burden Leads To Farmer Suicide In Bargarh

Bargarh: Farmer suicide in the state has again resurfaced after a gap of few months as yet another Odisha farmer succumbed to his suicide attempt on Sunday in Nuapalli village under Gaisilet block committed suicide over alleged loan burden.

The deceased farmer had been identified as Khemsagar Biswal. As per sources, Biswal had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from private money lenders by mortgaging his one acre land to marry off his daughter.

Biswal was unable to repay the amount due to massive crop failure for the last three years.

Allegedly, Biswal consumed poison on January 15 following which he was rushed to the district headquarters hospital at Bargarh.

He was later shifted to VIMSAR as his condition deteriorated. He however, breathed his last on the way to VIMSAR.
