Death Toll Touches Ten In Balasore Illegal Firecracker Unit Blast

Cuttack: The death toll in Balasore illegal firecracker manufacturing unit explosion has reached 10 as three more persons, injured in the incident, lost their lives here at the SCB Medical College and Hospital.

According to reports, Ramapada Maiti, Nimainlal Pradhan and six-year-old Nadini Pradhan of Bahabalpur village succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.

Notably, seven persons, including a minor, were killed and seven injured in a massive blast at a firecracker manufacturing unit inside a house in Bahabalpur village in Odisha's Balasore district on Wednesday.

According to police, the blast took place in the house of a person called Golak Pradhan, where firecrackers for Diwali were being made.

Expressing grief over the incident, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has already announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the grievously injured persons.

The Chief Minister has also directed that strong action should be taken against those responsible for the accident.
