Bhubaneswar: Senior leader Damodar Rout arrived here today from New Delhi a day after joining BJP at its national headquarters. The former BJD leader was accorded a rousing reception by the BJP supporters at the airport here.

He was then taken to the saffron party’s office here in a procession from the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA).

Prominent among others, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and BJP national vice-president-cum-spokesperson Baijayant Panda accompanied him from the national capital to the state capital city here.

Notably, Damodar Rout is the sitting MLA of Jagatshinghpur assembly constituency.

After being ousted from BJD last year allegedly for his anti-party activities, he was in dilemma whether to join BJP or Congress and finally opted for the BJP despite being its vehement critic whole life as well as claiming himself to be a staunch loyalist of legendary Biju Patnaik.
