Dalmia Group Shows Solidarity To Gopichand’s Badminton Stadium In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Dalmia Cements Bharat Limited vowed to support the construction of a world-class indoor badminton stadium at Kalinga Stadium by the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Foundation (PGBF) in the Capital city. Dalmia Group Managing Director Punit Dalmia, Chief National Badminton Coach Pullela Gopichand were in Bhubaneswar today to meet Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to finalize on the design of the stadium.

Appreciating Dalmia Group and Pullela Gopichand foundation for their efforts, the CM approved of the final design of the centre. Dalmia and Gopichand met CM Naveen  at Lok Seva Bhawan today. 

As per press release by the Office of the Chief Minister, CM Naveen said, “I am sure the High-Performance Centre will be one of the International standard training centres of our country.”

“Promotion of sports by industrial houses is a winning combination. My Government will always encourage such initiatives for the cause of sports in Odisha,” added the Chief Minister.

The official communiqué mentioned that the High-Performance Centre for Badminton will have 10 courts and will be constructed at a cost of Rs 30 crore. The Dalmia Group committed the amount through CSR initiative. The construction is scheduled to begin by December 2019 and to be completed by December 2020 and the centre will start functioning immediately. A 3 acre land for the same has already been allocated by the State government on lease. The Dalmia Group has vowed to bear all costs for the construction, meanwhile the Gopichand Foundation will be looking after the maintenance and management.

Dalmia Group MD Punit Dalmia said, “This stadium is the result of Odisha’s beloved Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ji’s vision to make the State visible on national and international stage. Based on his promise to make Bhubaneswar the Sports Capital of India, we had signed an MOU for building the stadium. The talented kids of Odisha will get world-class training and a platform to showcase their talent. Dalmia Group will always continue to support the promotion of Sports in India.”

Pullela Gopichand thanked the State Government and the Dalmia Group for supporting this sports venture. He said, “In the first phase, ten courts are being constructed. We hope the stadium to grow further in future which will give a better platform for Odisha’s kids.”

He added that his foundation will be looking after the technical aspect of the stadium.

Sports Director Vyneel Krishna too lauded the efforts of Dalmia Group and the Gopichand Foundation for the upcoming indoor Badminton stadium at Kalinga Stadium and said this is going to be iconic in all manners.

Odisha’s five-time Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been spearheading in making the State a sports hub in all ways possible. World Athletics Championship, Men’s Hockey World Cup and recently concluded 2018–19 Men's FIH Series Finals are few of the gala events held in Bhubaneswar.
