Bhubaneswar: Telephone lines and mobile connectivity and broadband services have been severely affected in the aftermath of cyclone Fani.

Keeping aside the inconvenience that the disruption is inflicting upon the general public, the virtually non-existent mobile network has magnified the challenge of agencies involved in relief and restoration.

The Government departments, personnel and designated agencies engaged in the restoration are using satellite phones to connect with one another. Most of the service providers are at their wits end as the cyclone has badgered cellular towers in Puri and Khurda districts.

"We have spoken to the private service providers and BSNL and requested them to work at war-footing for restoration of mobile services. It is expected that mobile networks will be working in full capacity shortly," Special Relief Commissioner, Bishnupada Sethi.
