Bhubaneswar: As extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘FANI’ is moving fast towards the coast of Odisha and as per the IMD’s forecast it is going to have its catastrophic landfall on Friday (May 3) and play havoc on life and property, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today ordered for evacuation and free kitchen from tomorrow (May 2).

Briefing media soon after the review meeting, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik said, “I held a long meeting with the departments and also the Collectors of the expected affected districts. About 8 lakh people will be evacuated by tomorrow evening.”

“I appeal to everyone that the children, the women, the old and the disabled to be evacuated first. Also all precautions to be taken to face the cyclone. Every life is precious. Everyone will work to see it happens.” 

Responding to a media query, he replied, “We’re fully prepared to tackle Cyclone Fani," and reiterated, "Every life is precious and we'll take care to see that (zero casualty) happens. 

Taking stock of the situation, the Odisha Chief Minister today reviewed the cyclone preparedness at State Secretariat this evening.

Presiding over the vital review meeting, the Chief Minister said that every life is precious.

He also directed the State Administration to ensure 100 percent evacuation in the vulnerable areas.

He also emphasied on the early restoration of power, water supply and road communication in the affected areas.
