Cyclone Fani: No Casualties So Far, Maximum Damage In Puri & Khurda, Says Odisha DGP

Bhubaneswar: As the eye of  extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani passes through Bhubaneswar, a large number of trees have been uprooted on its path from Puri through Khruda.

Director General of Police, Dr RP Sharma said that mobile communication has been completely snapped with Puri district and the different agencies of the State Government, including the Police Department are dependent on the HF/VHF sets for communicating with the affected regions.

"A large number of trees have been uprooted in Khruda and Puri. districts. However, there are no casualties reported so far. Hunderds of kuthca houses have been damaged in Puri, Jankia, Begunia, Balugaon and Khurda," Dr Sharma said.

The eye of the system has moved beyond Puri and is passing through Bhubaneswar. The system would sustain for the next couple of hours in the city and then move towards Kendrapada and Jagatisnghpur districts, he added.
