Bhubaneswar: With Cyclone FANI only few hundreds kilometers away from Puri coast, rain has started battering in several districts of Odisha. These districts include Gajapati, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and also Khurda. The districts of Rayagada, Cuttack, Puri and Nayagarh received showers in the afternoon too.
The Regional Meteorological Department has issued the following warnings:
On May 2: Red warning (take action)- Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at a few places over Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Koraput, Rayagada and Kandhamal districts of Odisha with isolated extremely heavy rainfall over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam (Intense heavy rainfall likely to commence from today mid-night).
Orange warning (be prepared): Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over the districts of Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Boudh, (Intense rainfall likely to commence from today late night) and Malkangiri(Intense rain from today evening).
On May 3: Red warning- Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at a few places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam , Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghapur, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore Kandhamal, Rayagada, ,Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, of Odisha with isolated extremely heavy rainfall over districts of Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghapur, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore and Mayurbhanj .
Yellow warning (be updated)- Heavy rainfall at isolated places over the districts of Boudh, Kalahandi Sambalpur and Deogarh of Odisha.
On May 4: Orange warning- Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places the districts of Balasore Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, of Odisha.
Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall at isolated places the districts of Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Kendrapara of Odisha.
Gale wind speed reaching 180-190 kmph gusting to 210 kmph is very likely to prevail over westcentral Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours and decrease thereafter.
Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely to prevail along & off Odisha Coasts and become gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 85 kmph from 2nd May night. It is very likely become 170-180 kmph gusting to 200 kmph along & off south Odisha Coast around landfall location and 90-100 kmph gusting to 115 kmph along & off remaining districts coastal Odisha by 3rd May forenoon for subsequent 12 hours and decrease thereafter.
Gale wind with speed 130 -140 kmph gusting to 150 is also likely over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and gale wind speed reaching 90-100 kmph gusting to 115 kmph is also likely over the districts of Gajapati, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar City), Cuttack (including Cuttack City), Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, and 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph over the districts of Nayagarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and strong gusty surface wind speed 30-40 kmph over the rest districts of Odisha by 3rd May, 2019 evening for subsequent 12 hours and significant decrease thereafter.
Sea Condition & Storm surge Warning:
The sea condition is phenomenal over westcentral Bay of Bengal, off north Andhra Pradesh Coasts till 03 May 2019 and over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha & West Bengal till 04 May.
Storm surge of about 1.5 meter height above astronomical tide is very likely to inundate low lying areas of Ganjam, Khurda, Puri & Jagatsinghpur Districts of Odisha at the time of landfall.
