Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India has lifted the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the 11 districts of Odisha in order to facilitate speedy rescue, relief and restoration activities to successfully face cyclone 'FANI'.
The MCC has been lifted from districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Cuttack and Jajpur as recommended by the Screening Committee of the State Government.
It is worthwhile to mention that the extremely severe cyclonic storm 'FANI' is presently lying about 680 km south-southwest of Puri (Odisha) and 430 km south-southeast of Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).
It is very likely to intensify further and move northwestwards during next 12 hours and thereafter recurve north-northeastwards and cross Odisha Coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali, to the south of Puri around May 3 afternoon with maximum sustained wind of speed 175-185 kmph gusting to 205 kmph.
