Cyclone FANI: Educational Institutes Asked To Declare Holidays, Tourists Advised To Leave Puri

Bhubaneswar: With extremely severe cyclonic storm 'FANI' presently lying around 710 kilometres away from Puri, the Odisha Government has instructed all education establishments in State to declare holidays from May 2 till further orders.

The government has further instructed that all the examinations should be rescheduled.

Despite government orders some schools are yet to declare summer holidays. Collectors are requested to issue notices to them and ensure compliance.

Similarly, tourists have been advised to leave Puri by May 2 evening. Non- essential travel may be cancelled during May 3-4 to the likely affected districts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam , Puri, Khordha of  south coastal Odisha and Rayagada and Kandhamal districts of south Interior Odisha on May 2.
