Cyclone FANI Death Toll Rises To 43, Over 1.6 Cr Affected, 5 Lakh Houses Damaged

Bhubaneswar: Cyclone Fani death toll has mounted to 43 as two more bodies were recovered, informed Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi today.

Earlier, 41 were reported dead that included 21 in Puri, 6 in Cuttack, 5 in Khordha, 4 in Jajpur and Mayurbhanj districts and 3 in Kendrapada.

Due to Cyclone FANI, 1,65,30,900 population have been affected in 14 districts while 34,56,362 livestock casualties have been reported. The 14 districts are Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh and Puri.

It includes 159 Blocks, 52 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and 16659 villages while 5,08,467 houses have got damaged.

In Puri district, where the cyclone made its lanfall, extensive damages have occurred to kutcha houses. As per report received so far 1,89,095 number of houses have been damaged in Puri. Structures of temporary street vendors have been completely damaged.

160 people have been injured and admitted to hospital for treatment. Special Circuit House Puri, Office and Residence of SP and Collector have been badly damaged like many other buildings.
