Cyclone FANI: Damage Expected, Action Suggested For 9 Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: With extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm 'FANI' fast approaching Odisha the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre (RSMC) in Delhi has released a report of the damage expected in nine districts and suggested some points to stay safe from it.

In Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur districts of Odisha, there will be extensive damage to all types of kutcha houses and some damage to old badly managed Pucca structures. There is also potential threat from flying objects.

There will be extensive uprooting of communication and power poles. Disruption of rail/road link at several places, extensive damage to standing crops, plantations, orchards, blowing down of Palm and coconut trees, uprooting of large bushy trees and large boats and ships may get torn from their moorings.

Similar damage is being expected also in Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Balasore districts of Odisha.

The RSMC has suggested for total suspension of fishing operations, to carry out extensive evacuation from coastal areas and diversion or suspension of rail and road traffic. People living in affected areas have been advised to stay indoors and not to travel in motor boats and small ships.
