Cyclone FANI Aftermath: Over 1.50 Cr Population Hit In 14 Odisha Dists, Above 34 Lakh Livestock Casualties

Bhubaneswar: As per the situation report on the extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘FANI’ released by the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) basing on the information received by 10 am today, 1,50,94,321 population affected in 14 districts while 34,56,362 livestock casualties have been reported.

The SEOC situation report states that 41 human casualties have been reported so far out of which Puri district has the highest death toll figure of 21, Cuttack district 05, Khordha, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj districts have 04 human casualties each, while Kendrapada district’s casualty figure stands at 03.

The SEOC situation report states that 87,39,657 livestock have been affected while 34,56,362 livestock casualties have been reported.

In Puri district extensive damages have occurred to ‘kutcha’ (non-concrete) houses. As per report received so far, 1,89,095 houses have been damaged in Puri. Structures of temporary street vendors have been completely damaged. 160 people injured and admitted to hospital for treatment. Special Circuit House Puri, Office and Residence of SP and Collector have been badly damaged like many other buildings.

Telecom towers have been affected resulting in cellular and telephone network down in wide area. All telephone and cell phones are down in Puri district.

Notably, 14 districts namely Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh and Puri have been affected by the recent cyclone. It includes 159 Blocks, 52 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and 16659 villages while 5,08,467 houses have got damaged.
