Bhubaneswar: Lack of cash and link failure in banks due to power outage has put people of Cyclone FANI-affected areas in a fix. While card transactions are being denied across business establishments in the city, cash has become the only means for day-to-day activities. However, withdrawal of cash, transferring money or depositing cheques have become an uphill task with most of the bank desktops showing server error or link failure. In this mayhem, some branches of State Bank of India have provided relief by becoming operational.
A tweet by the largest public sector bank informed that 17 branches in Cuttack, 10 braches each in Bhubaneswar and Jagatsinghpur, 7 branches in Nayagarh, two in Khurda and one in Puri have become operational. The Bhubaneswar branch is also providing portable water and mobile charging points to its customers and the public.
“Despite the large scale devastation caused by Cyclone Fani in Odisha, the following branches of SBI operating in the effected areas are back on their feet to alleviate the suffering of the people. #SBI #StateBankofIndia #CycloneFani #Odisha #Banking #BankingServices,” the tweet mentioned.
All branches of SBI are working in Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj (except Rairangpur). Apart from Dhenkanal Main Branch and Dhenkanal Bazar, rest of the SBI offices in Dhenkanal are operating.
In Jajpur region, all branches are working except Kendrapara, Balichandrapur, Bairi, Chandikhol and Gupti.
