Bhubaneswar: Landfall of Cyclone Amphan likely to start any time after 5.00 PM, informed Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) of Odisha Pradip Jena briefing newsmen here this afternoon.
As many as 1,48,486 persons have been evacuated and shifted to 2921 cyclone shelters in Odisha, Jena stated.
The SRC confirmed death of a child in Tihidi block of Bhadrak district.
"We have received reports of death of a child in Tihidi in Bhadrak district. A team comprising of tehsildar, police and health officials under instructions from the District Collector had rushed to the spot," Jena said.
The body of the deceased child has been brought for post mortem and the cause of death can be confirmed after conduct of the same, he added.
He further said that as many as 1885 pregnant women were shifted to hospitals in the last two days and added that his office has received report of a woman delivering her baby in a Fire Ambulance.
Jena informed that wind speed recorded at Paradip was around 110-120 kmph, similar wind speed was recorded at Talchua and Dhamra.
Since Cyclone Amphan is approaching to move along Balasore coast, the wind speed there has gone up, he added.
The SRC stated that there are no reports of any uprooting of telecom towers barring a few instances of antennae of these getting disoriented and snapping of wires in few places.
Cutting of uprooted trees in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Bhadrak districts has begun to clear roads, he added.
Jena said a total of 36 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) are helping the district administrations in restoration work adding that the total includes the five teams that had been kept here as reserve.
