Cuttack: It became a matter of great pride for Odias everywhere when their all-time favourite Dahibara-Aludum was recognised at a national level and was awarded at the 11th National Street Food Festival.
This feat was achieved by Cuttack’s Pradipta Sahoo who beat 250 contestants from all over the nation and won the ‘Top East Zone Street Food Stall’. He was awarded by the Culinary Culture at 11th National Street Food Festival in New Delhi. The festival which lasted from December 16-25 had visitors as well as judges swooning over the taste, aroma and flavours of Dahibara-Aludum.
Popularly known as Babula Bhai, Pradipta has his stall at Cuttack’s Shelter Chhak where usually his customers arrive before Babula arrives with his daily load.
Pradipta and his wife Malikrani work hard in their bustling kitchen for four hours every day to prepare Dahibara, Aluduma and Guguni- the three main parts of the iconic dish. Pradipta reaches at his stall at 4 pm without fail and so are his loyal customers of several years.
Reminiscing his win, Pradipta said, “More than winning the award, I was happier when it was announced that Odisha won the award. It was a joyous moment for every Odia everywhere.”
Pradipta profusely thanks his wife, his mentor and more importantly the people who have loved his food and have been praises on him all over the years. It is their appreciation that pushed him to do better.
“We never expected to win the award but kept up with our hard work. This is God blessing us for our hard work all these years”, voiced the husband-wife duo.
For the sake of spreading the magic of Odia food, Pradipta has even travelled to Bangalore, Bilaspur, and Pune among other places to teach outlets there Odisha’s signature dish.
