Cuttack Railway Station To Get Much-Needed Facelift! Know What's Going To Change

Cuttack: The East Coast Railways is all set to give Cuttack railway station a much-needed facelift to provide airport-like facilities to passengers. Waiting rooms, platforms, foot-over-bridges will be upgraded and other modern facilities will be provided to the passengers.

Additional Divisional Railway Manager ADRM ECoR Shri Rajkumar informed, “ To provide an enhanced and richer experience to the passengers, Indian Railways has been working towards development of railway stations. In the first phase, 68 railway stations of India have been identified for this purpose, out of which Cuttack Railway Station is one of them.

The redevelopment of Cuttack Railway Station was sanctioned under “Umbrella work of East Coast Railway” with a cost of Rs 9,92, 32,426. The developmental works under this redevelopment project are:

1: Improvement of Façade of Cuttack Station building: It includes improvement of retiring rooms and waiting halls with new furniture, improved toilet facilities, drinking water facilities, improvement of station superintendant rooms, booking areas, entry concourses, modified train indication boads, jingles on the importance of Cuttack, LED lighting to brightn up all areas,etc.

2: 6 lifts will be provided in view of senior citizens and handicapped passengers. One escalator has already being commissioned towards second entry of the station for easy movement of passengers.

3: Roads will be widened to improve the station circulating area and streamline the traffic flow. Parking lots are being improved using tiles.

4: For free movement of passengers, new foot over bridge (6 mtr wide) was commissioned recently at the railway station connecting all platforms within a period of 140 days from the issue of LOA.

5: Illumination in entire station complex is being improved to airport standard. 6: Cuttack being the birth place of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, a gallery in the concourse to commemorate Netaji is being developed.

7: A digital museum will be set up.

8: All signage boards are being changed.

9: All the food stalls at the railway station will have a brand new look.

10: A selfie zone will be set up.

11: Access control wall with local painting is being developed for beautification.

12: Various steps will be taken towards green environment, like plastic recycling machines, decentralized organic waste treatment plant, stainless steel dustbins, etc will be installed.

13: For security, 3 baggage scanner, extra 15 CCTVs will be provided to keep a close watch on criminal activities.

14: A GPS based digital clock will be installed at Cuttack railway station for uniformity in timings. It will synchronise the time up to the seconds. This GPS based clock will be equipped with light emitting diodies (LED) so that one can see the time from a distance of 100 metres at least.

Most importantly, the passengers at Cuttack Railway Station can enjoy all the above facilities by the end of March 2019.
