Bhubaneswar: Officers of Air Intelligence Unit of Customs thwarted yet another attempt of gold smuggling at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
Acting on an input, the officials intercepted one lady passenger, hailing from Maharashtra, who had arrived from Dubai via Delhi by Air India Flight No AI-77.
Her personal search led to recovery of three capsules wrapped with black adhesive tape containing five pieces of gold bars of foreign origin concealed in the rectum.
The total weight of the gold was ascertained as 707.670 grams having purity of 99.9 per cent and valued at Rs 23,89,799 (Rupees Twenty three lakh eighty nine thousand seven hundred ninety nine only).
