Bhubaneswar: As people tend to panic buy during any crisis and with every chance of similar situation arising in Odisha due to COVID-19, some vested interest businessmen hoard the commodities, create fear of non-availability of the goods and then sell it at higher prices.
In view of this, Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain has asked his department to adopt necessary measures and has sought cooperation of the public. Accordingly, all district Collectors have been directed to monitor prices and availability of essential commodities and take stringent action against hoarders.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare, Vir Vikram Yadav, have instructed all Collectors to take necessary measures for availability of the essential commodities to consumers at fair prices. If necessary, the Collectors can take action against hoarders under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
Besides, Collectors of bordering districts have been asked to ease the import of essential commodities from neighbouring States into Odisha.
