25 March 2020

Bhubaneswar: A total number of 78233 persons have come from other states to different districts of Odisha. A maximum 11,084 persons have come to Ganjam district while to Balasore 6442 persons have come. 4448 and 4306 persons have come to Kalahandi and Phulbani district respectively, Chief Spokesperson of Odisha Government for COVID-19 Management, Subroto Bagchi said today.

Many of these people have returned from States which have a high population of COVID-19 infected people. It would be a mistake to assume that none of them would be carrying infections, said Bagchi.

"In maximum cases the symptoms of Coronavirus infections is visible in 5 days while in other cases it is revealed in 14 days. Since the disease is basically asymptomatic, the people who have returned from other states will have to remain in strict home-isolation for 14 days," he added.

They should not mingle with their family members. This is for their own safety as well as the safety of their family members. The district officials and Gram Panchayats have been instructed to enforce this order across the State.

Keeping in view the health condition of the persons returning from outside, the Sarpanchas of GPs have been instructed earlier to motivate these people how to go for self quarantine voluntarily for 14 days at their residence. Panchayat Samitis and District authorities have been instructed similarly, he said.
