Couple Arrested For Duping Havildar Of Rs 65,000 After Befriending On Facebook

Cuttack: A couple has been arrested by the Commissionerate Police on Thursday for allegedly duping a havildar of the Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) of Rs 65,000 after befriending him of Facebook.

The accused have been identified as Muralidhar Altia and his wife Tanaya Ganga, who reportedly create multiple fake Facebook profiles to befriend people and collect money from them on various pretexts.

In one such incident, Tanaya had created an account on the social networking site by the name of Subhasmita Mishra and had collected the said amount from Havildar Madhusudhan Tripathy on pretext of pursuing MBBS course.

It was after Madhusudhan realized about the fraud, he lodged a complaint at Chauliaganj Police Station in Cuttack. During course of investigation, police nabbed the couple from Puri while they were targeting another victim from Bhubaneswar, informed Cuttack DCP Akhileshvar Singh.

The couple have been found to be residents of Boudh and further investigation is underway to find out their involvement in any other cases, Singh added.
