Bhubaneswar: The red rebels have taken up a surprisingly corporate move to ensure security of their troopers. From now on, Naxals will be seen wearing identity cards as a strategy to recognize themselves amidst ‘traitors’.
On Sunday, the cards were seized from a Maoist camp in Chhattisgarh-Telangana border. As per sources, the identity cards have been distributed to over 2000 fighter commandos with special training. They have been directed to keep it with them at all times. The cards have a red flag on one side and the person’s details on the other side. Central Committee Members will be given a four-paged identity card, added sources.
Many a times, Naxals kill people in tribal regions anticipating them to be ‘police informers’. The red rebels allege that tribals join the Naxal movement and after few years they surrender and start helping cops. To curb this betrayal, new Maoist leader Nambala Keshav Rao began the I-card strategy, said sources.
Meanwhile, many have said that police might also benefit from this move as they can easily find the identity of a Naxal when an encounter occurs. However, police is yet to comment on the matter.
