Bhubaneswar: Vehemently protesting against the BJP-led Central Government’s decision to shift the Bhubaneswar office of Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE) to Bengaluru despite model code of conduct in force, BJD today alleged that it is BJP’s second conspiracy for electoral gain in Karnataka close on the heels of the bifurcation of East Coast Railway (ECoR).

Convening a press meet this evening, BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra complained, “When the model code of conduct is in force, BJP-led Central Government has taken another ploy for electoral gain in Karnataka. It’s extremely unfortunate to note how such a significant decision was taken now amid the model code of conduct.”

He stated, “One thing is clear that the progress of railway in Odisha isn’t in the mindset of BJP. On the one hand, the BJP-led Centre is collecting revenue to a tune of Rs 20,000 crore from the railway while on the other hand spending only Rs 2000 crore in Odisha.”

He listed out, “Several railway projects in Odisha want electrification. About six projects like Khurda Road-Bolangir, Lanjigarh Road-Junagarh, Nuapada-Gunupur, Rupsa-Bangiriposi, Tata-Badampahad and Bankura-Mahagram are underway. Why did the BJP-led Centre decide to shift the important railway electrification division from Odisha at this juncture? Does BJP want there shouldn’t be railway growth in Odisha?”

He also informed media that BJD is going to lodge its complaint before the Election Commission tomorrow through the Odisha Chief Electoral Officer.
