Bhubaneswar: While the grand old Congress party has been out of power in Odisha since 2000 till date as BJD has been stealing march over it consecutively for four times and confident of repeating the same performance this time too, Congress is planning ways and means to wrest power.

Even though its manifesto is yet to be made public, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has decided to dole out ‘marriage kit’ if voted to power here in the State.

Talking to media persons today, PCC president Niranjan Patnaik said, “Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Odisha on March 8. He has decided to attend first a Mahila Samavesh (Women’s Convention) and then address a public meeting.”

He informed, “He will first join the ‘Mahila Samavesh’ at Jeypore (Koraput district) and later ‘Chasi Samavesh’ (farmers’ convention) at Bargarh in western Odisha.”

“The focus of our party is on the empowerment of women. Our efforts are on to field more women candidates,” stated the PCC chief.

The Odisha Congress chief revealed, “When our party manisfesto will be released you can come to know. We have decided to present ‘marriage kit’ this time if voted to power. The kit may carry cash or matrimonial materials.”

On the contrary, Odisha BJP vice-president Samir Mohanty criticized, “Congress is desperate for power in Odisha. Rahul Gandhi is their party president and has got political right to criss-cross India and make announcements. Let him announce and people will take a decision. The reply to his announcements will be got after the elections.”

BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra reacted, “Congress party for the last 60 years had the slogan of ‘garibi hatao’ (do away with poverty). ‘Garibi’ didn’t get abolished but the ‘garib’ (poor) kept the party at bay. Will the people of Odisha trust Congress party who had been giving fall promises and plundered India?”
