Bhubaneswar: In the wake of Congress party’s first list of candidates announced for the six Lok Sabha and 36 Vidhan Sabha seats in Odisha, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today issued its media statement on Congress' representation of women candidates.

BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra said, “It's sad that the Congress party which speaks about women empowerment, women security and development of women is able to find only one woman candidate worthy to fight this election from among 36 Vidhan Sabha and 6 Lok Sabha candidates that have been announced by the party.”

“This exposes the hypocrisy and crocodile tears that the Congress has been shedding about women's empowerment for so many years,” he criticized.

The BJD spokesperson further stated, “While on one hand Biju Janata Dal's president Shri Naveen Patnaik has provided 33% reservation for women in Lok Sabha seats from the party and is providing an impressive representation of women candidates in the Vidhan Sabha seats as well, the Congress fielding only one woman candidate in 42 Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha constituencies shows their lack of interest and commitment to the development and political empowerment of women.”

On the contrary, no counter reaction from Congress was available despite concerted efforts by OMMCOM NEWS till the filing of this story.
