Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said today that the Congress was responsible for country-wide violent protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The protests were sponsored ones, and supported by the Congress, Pradhan alleged.

Addressing media persons on BJP's Jan Jagran Abhiyan, Pradhan said that the Congress is spreading false propaganda against the Citizenship Amendment Act. "Congress has become intolerant and desperate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a bold measure to correct a historical blunder and provide citizenship to lakhs of minorities who left Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and took refuge in India after 1947.”

Leaders of Congress had backed the same legislation in the past but are changing colours after the BJP Government took the step forward, he said. "We will reach one crore people in Odisha to educate them about CAA,” added Pradhan.

Countering Pradhan's allegations Congress veteran and Jatani MLA Suresh Routray blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the violent protests across india over CAA. What was the urgency to bring the CAA? So much of violence against it, so many lives are lost. Who is responsible for the loss of life and property," questioned Routray.

"The Congress has always endorsed peace and brotherhood. Binding india in one thread irrespective of caste, creed, religion has been the polcy of Congress since many decades," the senior Congress leader said.
