04 August 2019

Bhubaneswar: After a wake of attack and loot incidents in the last week in Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate of Police has switched the action button on and now is on a hot pursuit.

On Sunday evening, a notorious criminal Ravi Rao was apprehended following an exchange of fire in Bharatpur area of the city under Khandagiri police limits. Rao received bullet injury on his leg and was arrested. He was shifted to the Capital Hospital for treatment. The police have seized a firearm and deadly weapons from his possession.

"He was spotted standing near an SUV and started firing on the police. In retaliation the police fired leaving him injured, following which he was arrested. Four crude bombs, one mouser and one round of live ammunition have been seized from his possession," a press note from the Commissionerate of Police stated.

This is the third encounter in a row over the past two days in Bhubaneswar. The first encounter took place late on Friday night in which two criminals were arrested. The second incident occurred in Badagada area in which another two, Sipun Kabi and Harekrushna Swain were taken into custody.

Locals said that a sense of security has prevailed in the city following the increased policing across Bhubaneswar. “The appropriate place for these elements is behind the bars. The police is doing the right thing by nabbing them one after another,” a group of residents in Sahid Nagar said.
