Bhubaneswar: In a major success to the Commissionerate Police in this smart city, a gang of highway robbers operating under the Khandagiri Police Station limits have fallen into the police dragnet while they were committing their crime of looting the inter-state truckies hailing from out of Odisha.

The arrested gang of six members includes four engineering students while one is a veteran history-sheeter.

This was informed by the Bhubaneswar DCP today.

Briefing media, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo said, “The PCR under Khandagiri Police Station limits has made a commendable detection. Being tipped off about certain illegal activities near a truck in the late night hours, the police staff detained one suspect. After interrogation, it was revealed that the detainee was the member of a gang.”

“When the Khandagiri Police and the PCR staff launched a joint raid, six miscreants have been arrested,” he informed.

He further informed, “Their modus operandi (MO) is to swoop down upon the trucks (mostly from outside the State) parked on the NH late night and early morning hours. On the pretext of asking for water or adopting other means, the gang members lure the drivers to come down and then loot them. The gang has looted money, mobile phones, etc.”

“Among the six arrested, four are engineering college students while one is a veteran anti-social having already booked in several cases. Three motor-cycles, Rs 6,000 cash, two mobile phone sets have been seized from their possession,” he added.

“Investigation is still on to unravel their involvement in any other cases. We’re also trying for further recovery from them. No lethal weapon has been seized until now though one was detained from the spot while others during the raid,” said the DCP.
