Class 8 Girl Raped 8 Months Ago Delivers Baby In Odisha’s Kandhamal, Action Taken Against School Staff As Locals Block NH

Kandhamal: In a shocking incident, a girl student of a residential school in Daringbadi area here allegedly delivered a baby in the hostel premises following which irate locals protested the incident and blocked the National Highway-59 demanding an inquiry and immediate arrest of the accused.

In view of the tension, local police has rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. The incident has taken place under Baliguda police station. Vehicular movement along Daringbadi and Berhampur stretch was adversely affected due to the blockade.

According to latest reports, two matrons, one health worker (ANM), two CCAs cook-cum-attendants and one warden were dismissed while three women Assistant Superintendents were suspended. On the other hand, the headmistress of the school was questioned in this connection and has also been served a show cause notice.

According to Kandhamal SP Pratik Singh, "The girl was raped 8 months back at her village by a 23-year-old Shravan Kumar Pradhan. She couldn't reveal it before anyone out of fear and shame. The main accused has been detained.”

Kandhamal Collector has also written to Odisha government recommending action against headmistress and has directed sub-collector to conduct probe and submit report within 10 days. Meanwhile, Odisha SC and ST Minister Ramesh Majhi has reportedly ordered for a probe into the incident.
